6.2mi to Route 7

Woke Early, for me, and started breaking down camp. Floyd showed up while I was eating breakfast. Already a hot humid and very sticky. Out of the gate had to climb Mt. Everett 2602′. Taking many short breaks and drinking lots of water to keep hydrated. Climbed Jug End 1750′. As soon as I got to the bottom the storms rolled in and the skies opened up.

Had about four miles of almost flat trail. Putting on my speed walking shoes. through swampy wet sloppy trail and some of the most fierce misquotes. In full rain I was slapping six at a time off my arms an hands. The lightening and thunder threatened to shake us off the very trail. Even throwing dime sized hail at us there was no reprieve. Massachusetts was letting us know we were very unwelcome. Filling my boots to the top with water. I made it to US7 and found the Corn Crib. Very sweet lady that ran it lets hikers stop in and get dry or stay in her gazebo. I used her phone and call to get a room and find a laundry to dry out. In Great Barrington, Ma.

I waited out in the gazebo for about an hour for Floyd who had stopped and held up on someone’s front porch to wait out the worst of the storm, instead of running through the open fields with lightening crashing all around. When he made US 7 I suggested a ride into town.
